TACY FLINT PARTNER Sidley Austin LLP

T acy F. Flint is a premier appellate litigator who has won victories for her clients in high-stakes cases at all levels of the judiciary, through an uncommonly insightful legal perspective combined with zealous advocacy and business acumen. As a partner in the Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation practice at Sidley Austin LLP, Tacy advocates for her clients from complaint through appeal, leading teams writing critical motions and briefs, presenting compelling oral argument, and developing litigation strategy that best advances her client’s position at every stage of litigation. Her practice spans a wide range of legal issues, including antitrust, contract disputes, consumer class actions, ERISA, federal preemption, securities laws, and the First Amendment. Tacy is a fierce advocate—for her clients in appellate arguments, for women associates and law students moving up the career ladder, and for her community. She has argued or briefed major appeals in courts around the country—including the Supreme Court and every federal court of appeals—winning historic judgments for her clients. In 2020, she was named AmLaw Litigator of the Week for her Sixth Circuit win on behalf of Detroit public school students denied access to literacy; in 2022, she represented a dozen state legislators supporting the Equal Rights Amendment in the D.C. Circuit; and from 2019 through 2022, she led a victorious, multi-office team in the district court, Seventh Circuit, and Supreme Court in a high-profile case challenging the Trump administration’s public charge rule. Outside the courtroom, Tacy works advocates for women

lawyers through numerous leadership positions. Tacy is chair of the SidleyWomen committee, working to advance women leaders at Sidley and helping female associates achieve their ambitions. As Deputy Head of Sidley’s 150-lawyer Litigation group, Tacy mentors dozens of associates as they grow their careers. As Sidley’s recruiting chair, Tacy meets with and encourages women law students across the country. And Tacy is Chair-Elect of the Board of the NALP Foundation for Law Career Research and Education, supporting research into pathways for the advancement of women and diverse lawyers. Tacy is also deeply committed to the Chicago community, and was named in 2017 one of Crain’s Chicago Business’s “60 Most Influential Women Lawyers.” In 2020, she was elected to the Adler Planetarium Board of Trustees, where she works to support its mission of expanding access to space science and STEM. As a two-time cancer survivor, Tacy leads fundraising efforts each year for Cycle for Survival and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In recognition of Tacy’s civic leadership, she was named to a prestigious Signature Fellowship with Leadership Greater Chicago, which trains select professionals to effect meaningful change in their communities and organizations. Prior to joining Sidley, Tacy graduated first in her class from University of Chicago Law School and clerked for Judge Richard Posner of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Justice Stephen Breyer of the U.S. Supreme Court.
