LAURA GINETT PARTNER Hall, Prangle and Schoonveld

L aura Ginett is a trial lawyer who defends healthcare providers against allegations of malpractice. An Illinois native, Laura earned her law degree from Boston University before returning home to begin her legal career at the Chicago office of Locke Lord, then called Lord Bissell & Brook. She became a partner there in 1999, moved to Anderson Rasor & Partners in 2000 and then joined Hall, Prangle and Schoonveld in 2015. She has significant experience in representing hospitals and long-term care providers. She has substantial expertise in cases that involve psychiatric issues, including involuntary commitment, suicide and assault. Her cases have often required an urgent need for crisis communication and media management, and she has spoken on this topic at DRI. She has presented at ACHA, CHRMS and AAPACN conferences on a variety of issues. Laura values personal relationships with her clients, co-defense counsel, opposing counsel and those who comprise her team at HPS. She believes if people bring their best selves to the process that the fair resolution of claims becomes a simpler task. Where other counsel are receptive, she participates in alternative dispute resolution. This is not always possible, however, and Laura has taken many cases to verdict. Laura makes herself available to everyone in the process and treats the counseling aspect of her practice with respect. Litigation has the potential to breed anxiety and she works to minimize this

concern for her clients through preparation and communication. As a component of her practice, Laura leads a large, knowledgeable team at HPS in the representation of skilled nursing facilities. The team is composed of nurse paralegals with experience in quality, associates, and partners devoted to staying on top of industry updates and medical developments. Mentoring these individuals has been a source of great joy in Laura’s practice. She works with national clients to promote excellent care and favorable litigation outcomes. Additionally, she is part of HPS’ Catastrophic Trial Team, a small group of defense attorneys who are available to appear pro hac vice in high-exposure medical-malpractice and long term care cases in jurisdictions throughout the country. In 2000, Laura was elected to membership of the Society of Trial Lawyers, an elite, invitation-only group, which comprises many of Chicago’s top trial lawyers on both the defense and plaintiff sides. Laura served on the Society’s board from 2005-2007. In 2011, she became an Associate Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. She has been named a Leading Lawyer from 2011 to the present and is a 2023 Super Lawyer. Since March of 2020, Laura has served on a task force focused on COVID-19 litigation both in Illinois and nationally, keeping abreast of pandemic-related promulgations by State and Federal agencies. She is on the Executive Committee and chairs the Finance Committee at HPS.
