T risha M. Rich is a partner at Holland & Knight, where she serves as co-chair of the firm’s national Legal Profession Team, and concentrates her practice in legal ethics, professional responsibility law and commercial litigation. Her legal ethics practice focuses on representing lawyers, law firms, in-house counsel, and legal tech companies on a wide variety of professional regulation and legal ethics issues, including legal malpractice, partnership and corporate structuring, law firm management and employment issues, fee disputes, conflicts and disqualifications, confidentiality, privilege, attorney disciplinary defense, and character and fitness proceedings. Trish advises both law firms and lawyers on ethical and fiduciary issues related to lateral hiring, law firm dissolution and expulsion matters, and she serves as an expert witness on legal ethics and professional responsibility matters. In her commercial litigation practice, she represents national and international companies, small and mid-size businesses, and individuals in all types of disputes and litigation. Trish is a national leader in the legal ethics community. She serves on the executive board of the nation’s largest legal ethics bar association – the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers – and teaches legal ethics at New York University School of Law. Trish is a thought leader in the field and is a frequent speaker and author on legal ethics, risk management, and regulatory reform issues. She played a key role on the 2020-21 CBA/CBF Task Force on the Sustainable Practice of Law & Innovation and has twice served on Law360’s Legal Ethics Advisory Board. Trish is a long-time member of the Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee and a commissioner on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. She serves on the advisory board of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Justice Entrepreneurs Project and serves as its outside ethics counsel. Trish is a proud member of the Chicago Bar Association, where she has chaired or served on many committees, including currently serving on the Board of Managers, and assisting in producing and hosting the CBA’s award-winning podcast, @thebar. This year, she will begin authoring the CBA Record’s legal ethics column, becoming the third legal ethics columnist in the magazine’s history and its first woman author. Trish was included in 2018’s Crain’s Chicago Business 40 Under 40 and 2017’s Law Bulletin Media’s Forty Under 40 Illinois Lawyers. She was the 2017 recipient of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Exceptional Young Lawyer Award, and received the YLS’s Hilliard Award for Outstanding Committee Service and Gray Award for Outstanding Project Leadership. She is in the 2021 class of Leadership Greater Chicago, an alumni of Holland & Knight’s Rising Star program, and has been repeatedly recognized by the firm for her exceptional commitment to pro bono work. In 2016, she was a recipient of Holland & Knight’s inaugural Living the Commitment Award, for her commitment to the firm’s core values of public service, bar and client service. At the award ceremony, she met her then-future husband, Holland & Knight partner Chris Nolan, who was receiving the same award. They live in Lakeview with their elderly cat, Mason.
