T he plaintiff and her husband were push- ing their stroller down the sidewalk on the 3300 block of N Clark St. While walking, the plaintiff fell into an open manhole cover and sustained injuries to both her ankles. She has ongoing complaints of ankle pain and
difficulty walking, and there was testimony that she needed ankle replacement surgery. The de- fense argued that the sidewalk was reasonably safe for pedestrian traffic, that the manhole was an open and obvious condition, and that the plain- tiff was more the 50% contributorily negligent.
