The average Cook County settlement was $2.6 million. Non-Cook settlements aver - aged $1.27 million. AUTO COLLISIONS In the 2023 JVR Report, auto collision cases decreased from a 10-year high set last year for the number of cases and total settlements amount. This year, auto colli - sion settlements were 23% of the reported settlements for a total of $250 million. This amount is 23% less than the 2022 total ($324 million). Of the 641 Illinois non-business case settlements considered for the 2023 JVR Settlements Report — including those be- low the $500,000 threshold for inclusion in the top firm rankings — 71% came from Cook County. While the 458 Cook County settlements reported to Jury Verdict Reporter repre - sented a majority of cases, 183 settlements from the rest of Illinois were a five-year high. Cook County accounted for 84% of the total settlement amount with $1.2 billion, while non-Cook settlements totaled $233 million.
