I t hasn't taken long for David Kalimuthu to earn a reputation as one of the top medical malpractice defense attorneys in the Chicago market. Why? He consistently delivers winning re- sults for his clients, doesn't hesitate to put in the long hours to prepare his cases and always practices the law with the utmost integrity. It's a combination that has made Kalimuthu one of the rising young stars in the city's legal community. One nominator who has worked as co-defendant with Kalim- uthu on several cases says that few attorneys grasp the most im- portant concepts of a case as quickly and effectively. Kalimuthu also manages to communicate these facts in a way that juries can easily understand. The nominator points to one case in which the legal team was able to achieve an excellent settlement on the eve of trial. Kali- muthu shone in retaining and producing experts for deposition, the nominator said. Kalimuthu also prepared a strong animation on the complicated anesthesia aspiration case. "The animation was fantastic," the nominator said. "It helped drive down the value of the case. It showed how accomplished a trial lawyer David is." Marc McCallister, partner with the Chicago office of Cavanagh
Sorich Law Group, said that Kalimuthu isn't afraid to try the tough cases. He takes on these complicated matters often, and just as frequently earns winning results for his clients. Kalimuthu also doesn't waste time, McCallister said. While Kalimuthu is a fierce advocate for his clients, he understands how to work professionally with opposing counsel to avoid friv- olous battles and avoid unnecessary motion practice. "David is able to strike a good balance of advocacy and pro- fessionalism," McCallister said. A judge in the trial section of the Circuit Court of Cook Coun- ty's Law Division says that what truly sets Kalimuthu apart is not just one achievement but his consistency and constantly strong presentation skills. The Judge points to a 2024 medical malpractice trial in which Kalimuthu showed exceptional direct and cross examina- tion skills. "He was very organized and pointed during his examinations, firm but always respectful of the witnesses," the judge contin- ued. "He knew the jury was the audience and, consequently, made sure that the expert witnesses explained medical termi- nology and procedures that would have otherwise gone over their heads.”
