E xpertise, professionalism and a commitment to delivering excellent results for her clients. These are traits that have helped Julia Mazur earn recognition as one of the top young intellectual property advisors in Chicago. Her peers say that what sets Mazur apart is her deep under- standing of complex intellectual property matters combined with her thoughtful approach and focus on the needs of her clients. "One of Julia's standout qualities is her ability to consistently approach disputes with a practical business-minded perspec- tive," said Kevin MacKinnon, general counsel with Boar's Head Brand. "She has a unique talent for cutting through complexity and driving toward resolutions that are both efficient and effec- tive. Her sharp focus on achieving outcomes that align with our business goals not only streamlines the process but saves us sig- nificant time and resources." Mazur has successfully represented Boar's Head in compli- cated legal matters. MacKinnon points to the role she played in a high-stakes trademark dispute that involved several legal and strategic issues. He credited Mazur with navigating these issues and moving the matter toward a successful resolution. In a second matter, Mazur took what could have been

contentious negotiations and managed them with a steady, solution-oriented approach that avoided unnecessary conflict. "Her judgment, professionalism and ability to defuse tension make her an invaluable advisor," MacKinnon said. In another case, Mazur won a key victory for PepsiCo Inc. and The Gatorade Company in a landmark federal trademark case. SportFuel Inc. claimed that Gatorade's use of the slogan, "Gatorade: The Sports Fuel Company," constituted trademark infringement. Working with Katten partner Floyd Mandell, Mazur helped secure a favorable ruling from the Illinois District Court, which ruled Ga- torade's use of the slogan was protected fair use. The Seventh Cir- cuit Court of Appeals agreed with this ruling on appeal. Mazur has recently worked with Katten's advertising, mar- keting and promotions co-chairs Christopher Cole and Kristin Achterhof on various Lanham Act false advertising cases involv- ing a home appliance manufacturer and a biotech, diagnostic and genetic testing company.. A guest lecturer at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Mazur has taught classes such as Trademark Registration Process, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) Proceedings, and False Advertising. She also volunteers her time with Chicago Women in Intellectual Property (ChiWIP).
