A sk Michael Fleck's clients and they'll tell you: This intellec- tual property specialist isn't just smart, knowledgeable and hard-working. He also cares deeply about his clients. This combination of legal skill and a deep passion for crafting the best solutions for his clients has helped Fleck become one of the most sought-after intellectual property specialists in the Chicago market. Nazeer Ali, an attorney with the Chicago office of Hanley, Flight and Zimmerman, said that Fleck has succeeded with both patent prosecution and litigation. As Ali says, it is rare for an attorney to be talented at both. "He is a talented and skilled attorney," Ali said. "He does really care about his client's interests. He also is just generally a good and genuine person, which I consider to be a huge positive. I enjoyed working with him as a colleague." During his career, Fleck has managed global patent portfoli- os and also boasts a strong litigation track record, including in many district courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Cir- cuit and at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board. "Mike has been a thoughtful and diligent advocate," said Chad Pahnke with Chicago's McAndrews, Held & Malloy. "While negotiating with patent examiners on behalf of cli- ents, Mike consistently challenged patent examiners on

their questionable positions to enhance the scope of his clients' granted patents. Mike also has a strong negotiation skill set to complement his litigation track record, negoti- ating favorable settlements for many of his clients involved in litigation." In addition to his intellectual property work, Fleck has taken on several wrongful conviction cases, dedicating hundreds of pro bono hours to each of these matters. In 2022, his law firm awarded Fleck its Pro Bono Award in recognition of this work. As of the writing of this profile, Fleck was working on a case seeking DNA testing of evidence left at a murder scene by the perpetrator in which the State opposes the testing and related discovery. "Mike's pursuit of justice for his clients in these cases has an immeasurable impact on his clients, their families and the com- munity," said Heather Siscel, vice president and deputy general counsel for AccentCare, Inc.
