40 Under Forty 2024

honoree of this title continues fueling my commitment to serve justice and my desire to represent clients with the highest level of work ethic and integrity. Wishing this year’s 40-under 40 honorees contin- ued success and the inspiration to make an even greater impact in their fields. TIMOTHY M. WHITING Founder & Managing Partner, Whiting Law Group Ltd Class of 2002

It was a great honor to be named as a 40 Under 40 honoree, and what I found most surprising is how many non-lawyers also read the pub- lication, which of course had our bios, our experience, and accomplishments. Being named an honoree, also gave me the opportunity to meet and learn about the other honorees, from all different areas of law and specialties. I plan on including my 40 Under 40 recognition on my bio for the next 40 years! TARA R. DEVINE Lake County Managing Partner, Salvi Schostok & Pritchard PC Class of 2014

Being recognized by the Law Bulletin in 2009 as one of the 40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch remains one of my most treasured accomplishments. The 2009 Class of 40 Under Forty was indeed star-studded…I am truly honored to have been chosen alongside so many great lawyers who, to this day, remain my friends, cherished colleagues, and/or worthy adversaries. I remain incredibly touched by those who nominated me for this high honor – I hope Messrs. Connolly, Boho, and Mathewson know how much their nomina- tion elevated my young career. Thank you to them and thank you to the Law Bulletin! WILLIAM T. GIBBS Partner, Corboy & Demetrio PC Class of 2009

I was so honored to be part of the inaugural 40 under 40 class. The recognition was a tremendous boost to my confidence and allowed me to believe I could start a law firm. We started with 7 attorneys and now we are over 300 strong in 27 offices. I appreciate 40 under 40 for giving me the encouragement and uplift to be a success. KEVIN M. O’HAGAN Managing Partner, O'Hagan Meyer LLC Class of 2000

Being included in the 40 Under Forty Class of 2017 is an honor of a lifetime and helped spark confidence and creativity in my career journey. Over the years I have gotten to know my fellow honorees through continued bar association work and have developed deeper friendships. After receiving this honor, I learned about law firm mergers, acquisitions, and private prac- tice career transitions. This is something law school did not teach me. I launched a law firm in 2019 and learned how to be an entrepreneur. During the pandemic, I pivoted to an in house role where I could focus on my passion for sustainability and environmental law. The Law Bulletin's 40 Under Forty magazine is a snapshot in time. It serves as a guidepost for the next generation of law- yers and a reminder to 40+ year olds that your legal career is full of possibilities. EMILY N. MASALSKI Counsel - Regulatory & Sustain- ability, Eaton Corporation Class of 2017

Being selected to 40 Under Forty was a true honor, though it was more than a little humbling to be included among such an accomplished group. It meant a great deal to me that veteran attorneys and judges who I admired took the time to recommend me and I have repeatedly been inspired reading about the accomplish- ments of each successive year’s selectees. KENNETH T. LUMB Managing Partner, Corboy & Demetrio PC Class of 2005

I was fortunate to be recog- nized in the fifth listing of 40 Under Forty. At the time, I was in-house counsel and had just finished my year as Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association. The recognition in this listing was a huge recognition in the com- munity of distinction. Being part of this group remains a point of distinction and mark of recognition. DANIEL A. COTTER Member, Dickinson Wright Class of 2004

Being recognized as a 40-un- der-40 attorney was a pivotal moment in my legal career. This honor not only validated my dedication as a personal injury lawyer but also opened doors to new opportunities and connections within the Chicago legal community. It has also shaped my confidence in the old platitude that “hard work always pays off”. Being an
