MARRON MAHONEY PARTNER Laner Muchin Ltd
M arron Mahoney is a partner at Laner Muchin. She concentrates her practice on representing public and private sector employers in numerous areas of labor and employment law, with experience arguing in the Illinois Appellate Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She received her law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2007. Marron draws from an extensive background working within various government agencies and departments, including serving as Chief Legal Counsel for the Will County Executive’s Office and General Counsel and Chief of Staff for the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. In these roles, she gained experience in collective bargaining negotiations, grievance resolutions, and employment counseling. She previously served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Sharon Prost of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Judge James Holderman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and Justice Laura Liu of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District. Outside of her role at Laner, Marron is devoted to mentoring and teaching students at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She has taught legal writing to first-year law students, volunteered with Loyola’s moot court program for the past 12 years, and currently also serves as an adjunct professor in the advocacy program. She leverages her varied legal experiences to help her students navigate the legal field with a warm and supportive approach,
shaping future classes of great lawyers. Marron has gained a deep respect from her students, with one stating, “As a law student and Mexican immigrant, I still face a lot of obstacles in law school purely because of my lack of knowledge. However, Marron’s willingness to share her knowledge and experiences has made the law school journey a much easier one. Her guidance has opened doors to opportunities and experiences that might have otherwise remained out of reach for me and many others. She challenges and empowers us to become impactful contributors in the legal field.” Her contributions to the legal community extend to the Appellate Lawyers Association (ALA), of which she is an active member and served as President in 2023-2024. Throughout her tenure, Marron fostered a welcoming environment that empowered her female counterparts to excel in the legal profession and pursue leadership roles. Her commitment to enabling others’ progress was evident in her strategic use of her extensive network within the legal community to coordinate unique programs and speaking engagements to the benefit of her ALA peers. Aside from the ALA, Marron is a member of the Illinois Bar Foundation’s Lawyers Care Committee, the Illinois State Bar Association’s (ISBA) Labor and Employment Section Council, and the Richard Linn American Inn of Court. She is a past recipient of the ISBA Board of Governors Award and a previous chair of the ISBA’s Young Lawyer Division.
