M ackenzie J. Mahony has earned a reputation as a skilled and stra- tegic trial attorney in Chicago. Mac has devoted his career to rep- resenting people hurt or killed by the wrongful conduct of others and has already amassed an impressive list of results on behalf of his clients. This includes an excess verdict of more than $1.4 million for his client after the Defendant’s insurer failed to tender the full policy limits. The verdict was more than 10 times the amount of the insurance policy. “Mac has demonstrated excellence at analyzing and arguing the law, being persuasive, thinking quickly on his feet, and connecting with a jury,” said a retired Cook County Judge. “He has a talent for conveying his clients’ narratives and has a genuine desire to be the best at his work. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to watch him grow into an accomplished trial advocate,” said the Judge. Another nominator, a Cook County Judge, explained “Mr. Mahony possesses a rare combination of skill, fairness and gosh-darn likability.” Mac has achieved many notable results including $5.3 million for a 45-year-old man who was a passenger in a golf-cart rollover causing permanent leg injuries, and a settlement of $2.5 million for a 2-year- old girl who sustained burns to her hands due to an allegedly defective home appliance. “Mac has an uncanny ability to thrive at trial and his results show this,” said Jordan Powell, a founding partner with Chicago’s Passen & Powell. “Mac assisted me with a very difficult trial as a young lawyer. Early in his career, he showed the poise and skill of a veteran trial lawyer.” Mac is also among the top trial lawyers in Chicago representing elderly and disabled adults. He achieved results including a $1 million settlement for a disabled group home resident who choked and died after accessing food incompatible with his diet; $1 million settlement for a disabled group home resident who suffered heat stroke; $1 million settlement for a group home resident who suffered falls resulting in a fractured hip and death; and $1.2 million settlement for a resident who developed a pressure injury while receiving community-based care. “Mac is an extraordinarily thorough and prepared litigator,” said Brad Purcell, a partner with Chicago’s Freeman, Mathis & Gary. “In a case he pursued against my client, he developed what I thought was a “throw- away” theory of liability — distracted driver — and turned it into a for- midable obstacle to my defenses. That tenacity ultimately drove the case to a settlement that was over twice the claims-stage demand.” Mac isn’t slowing down, either. He is currently handling several com- plex, high-exposure matters, including a Milwaukee County, WI case in which a 24-year-old construction worker fell to his death during con- struction of an Amazon fulfillment center. Outside the courtroom, Mac serves on the Associate Board for Guest House, a nonprofit providing temporary housing for families receiving medical treatment in Chicago and is an active member of the Irish Fellowship and Celtic Legal Society.
