R esults matter. And Justin Seigler, an insurance law and coverage litigation partner at BatesCarey LLP, has built a successful career obtaining positive results for his clients. Apart from handling complex opioid litigation, Seigler litigated a hard- fought construction dispute in D.C. federal court involving the multi-bil- lion-dollar redevelopment of the District’s waterfront, counseled his client through a major international auto-part claim involving tens of millions of dollars, and defended a bad-faith action brought by anoth- er insurer in Florida federal court arising out of a murder and possible gambling-debt-gone-wrong. He was also called in to handle his firm’s most difficult depositions in a unique and contentious dispute over a failed fishery in Colorado, and to bring his deep legal experience to a wrongful conviction matter in Illinois federal court and a construction suit in the Fourth Circuit, both of which were wins in developing areas of the law. Seigler also handled one of the country’s more newsworthy legal matters: he defended a suit brought by the NFL in New York to recover insurance to cover the NFL’s liability for former players’ chronic trau- matic encephalopathy or CTE, a brain condition believed to result from repeated head injuries sustained during the game. Seigler used his legal skills to leverage his client’s coverage position and New York law to earn a favorable negotiated resolution. These success stories aren’t surprising to those who have watched Seigler during his career. “Justin possesses the unique and rare ability to be a fierce advocate while maintaining collegiality and earning the respect of his peers,” said a justice of the Appellate Court of Illinois’ 3rd District. “He does not put up with nonsense or over-aggression from opposing counsel and meets that behavior firmly and unwaveringly. Justin has developed a reputa- tion for high-level critical thinking and creative advocacy.” George Leynaud of Peru, Illinois-based Leynaud Law Group, saw Seigler’s legal talents up-close when he opposed the young attorney in an insurance-stacking dispute. “Justin did an exemplary job represent- ing the insurer,” Leynaud said. “He demonstrated an ability to handle complex legal coverage issues. At all times he demonstrated extreme professionalism and was able to work amicably while still maintaining firmness and aggressive representation on behalf of his client. I was clearly impressed with his knowledge and abilities.” Seigler has also taken the time to give back to his profession. He is active in the Italian-American attorney community as a member of the Justinian Society of Lawyers. “One of Justin’s unique characteristics is his outgoing and engaged personality,” said Chris Pickett, an attorney with Chicago’s Lindsay, Pickett & Postel, LLC and an early mentor of Seigler. “He can scarcely walk down the street or into a courtroom without encountering an at- torney who is either a friend or colleague.”
