ASHA SPENCER PARTNER Bartlit Beck LLP
A sha Spencer is a Partner in Bartlit Beck’s Chicago office and a nationally recognized trial lawyer with more than 15 years of experience. Her practice spans commercial litigation, product liability defense, patent litigation, and other high-stakes disputes in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitrations nationwide. Since joining the firm in 2010, Asha has established herself as a trusted and influential member of the team, driving meaningful results through her strategic insight, meticulous preparation, and command of the courtroom. Currently, Asha serves as national coordinating counsel for a global infrastructure company, helping lead its strategic defense as it responds to regulatory, tort, and other claims arising from its legacy infrastructure. She has also served as national counsel for Trinity Industries and Trinity Highway Products in litigation involving the ET Plus guardrail end terminal system. In this multi-jurisdictional matter, she has prepared numerous cases for trial, overseen expert discovery, argued dispositive motions, directed pre-trial strategy, and prepared key witnesses. Asha also regularly advises companies in the critical pre-litigation stage, helping them make smart, strategic decisions when significant disputes emerge. Drawing on deep litigation experience, she helps companies analyze risk, shape early strategy, and take proactive steps that protect business interests and optimize outcomes, whether through resolution or future litigation. Her work bridges the gap between business strategy and legal preparedness. Her trial work also includes representing LoggerHead Tools in a patent and trademark infringement case against Sears and Apex
Tool Group. Asha presented expert testimony on damages and cross- examined the defendants’ patent attorney, contributing to a defense verdict of willful infringement. Outside the courtroom, Asha is an active mentor and leader within the firm. She helped establish the Bartlit Beck Fellowship, a six-week program for third-year law students who have secured federal judicial clerkships and demonstrated a commitment to fostering equal opportunity in the legal profession. An alumna of The University of Chicago Law School, where she graduated in 2010 with high honors, Asha continues to contribute to the institution’s community and mission. She co-hosts the annual General Counsel Roundtable, which brings together general counsels and chief legal officers from leading companies to discuss contemporary legal and business issues. She also served as the National Chair of the Law School’s Law Firm Challenge and as a member of the Law School Council. Her engagement has supported the Law School’s efforts to expand access - today, more than 80% of incoming students receive scholarship support, more than double the share in 2009. While at Chicago, Asha was a member of the Law Review and the Order of the Coif, a Kirkland & Ellis Scholar, and a recipient of the Edwin F. Mandel Award for her work in the clinical program. A Chicago native, Asha is also active in civic life. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Cultural Affairs and as a Trustee on the Governing Board of Columbia College Chicago, reflecting her ongoing commitment to mentorship, education, and community engagement.
