Outstanding Cook County Defense Verdict in a Medical Malpractice Case
Pltf contended deft deviated from the standard of care by failing to diagnose the aneurysms, causing a lost chance for treatment prior to the transplant, and she has a life expectancy into her late 70s since the stem cell transplant was successful and she no longer has sickle cell disease. The defense argued the MRA (magnetic resonance angiog- raphy) was correctly interpreted, the
pseudoaneurysm developed sometime after the MRA and most likely close in time to the rupture since they do not last a long time before rupturing, the development of the pseudoaneurysm was likely related to pltf’s sickle cell condition, and she was not consciously aware of herself or her surroundings. The jury deliberated 4.5 hours.
